Tanzania Business e Visa
The business e-visa is for business professionals, investors, representatives of organizations and companies, or invited participants at conferences, seminars, and fairs. You can use this e-visa to settle estates, visit for contract negotiations, connect with buyers and suppliers, and do any other business-related activity. This e-visa is not a work visa, so you cannot engage in any economic activity that will earn you financial remuneration in any way.
The Tanzanian business as e visa is also issued as a single-entry visa for visits of not more than 90 days, so you are expected to have concluded your assignment on or before the last day. The e-visa for US business visitors is different as they have access to 1-year business e-visas, which allows them to stay and pursue their activities for up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
To avail this e-visa, the holder will need to provide documents to validate their visit.

Tanzanian Visa Policy
Tanzania has a visa policy that mandates visitors to hold a visa before they can enter the country unless the case persons are from visa-exempt countries. The revised Chapter 54 of the Immigration Act sets the template for immigration requirements and duration of stay in the country. Nationals from visa-exempt countries are allowed to arrive in Tanzania before receiving a visa on arrival, which will qualify them to enter the country as legal visitors. The visa on arrival allows them to stay in Tanzania for up to 3 months, but should they decide to stay much longer, they must apply for a consular visa before making the trip.
Visa Exempt Countries
As pointed out above, that a visitor is from a visa-exempt country doesn’t mean they don’t need a visa; instead, a visa on arrival will be issued to them for three months. According to the Immigration Act, there are countries on the exempt list whose citizens are eligible for a visa on arrival. To be sure of your eligibility, consult the list of approved countries.
Besides the visa-on-arrival program, an e-visa program was introduced on the 26th of November, 2018. This visa program is also open to selected countries totaling more than 150 countries. This e-visa application is submitted electronically, eliminating the need to visit the Tanzanian diplomatic mission office or wait at the border or airport for a visa upon arrival.
Tanzania Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for this e visa to Tanzania are as follows.
- You must be a citizen of any of the eligible countries
- You must have the required valid documents
- You must have no intention of staying in the country permanently
- You must have proof of sufficient funds to cover your expenses
Key Information
The e visas reviews above cover Mainland Tanzania and the island of Zanzibar.
- Business and tourist visa holders can visit Zanzibar if they so wish unless otherwise stated in their travel documents.
- E visas are not work visas, so they can’t be used to look for employment. For work visas, people seeking employment in Tanzania must apply to Tanzanian foreign missions abroad.
- It is illegal to overstay your visa, so endeavor to leave before it expires or seek an extension if necessary. Applications for extension must be submitted before the current visa expires.
- Visitors are advised to travel with the same passport they used for the e-visa application, not a different one.
- Parents or guardians traveling with minors must apply for a separate e-visa on their behalf and provide proof of parental consent documents signed by the parent (in case of guardians) or a civil status certificate to prove that the minor is their child (parent).
- Visitors must print out a copy of their e visas and travel with it to Tanzania as proof that they are legal visitors
- Tanzania's immigration officers have the right to deny a visitor entry into the country even if they possess valid visas. Officers must examine the visitor's documents and ask them questions about the purpose of their trips and may deny a visitor entry if their documents are Invalid or if their visit is suspicious
- The visa application fee is not refundable and must be paid before the application form can be submitted. Paying the application fee is not a guarantee that the e visa will be issued. Fees are paid online with a credit or debit card.
- Visitors are advised to use only approved entry routes during their visits. While they can exit using any route, the approved airports, seaports and land borders should be the only means of entry.
- Visitors with dual citizenship must use a passport issued by one of the countries on the Eligibility list.
- Transit visitors must book their Onward flight for a third country with a flight ticket to show as proof. Should they decide to leave the airport for sometime they will have to show their onward flight ticket as proof that they will return to the airport to continue their journey.
